Ion Nitriding (Plasma Nitriding)
What is Ion Nitriding?
NDK possesses the largest ion nitriding production capacity in Korea, made possible through our independently developed and operated ion nitriding facilities. We offer effective surface hardening solutions that support dimensional stability and component enhancement, using a localized, environmentally friendly plasma-based treatment.
Ion nitriding is an advanced surface hardening process in which ionized nitrogen is absorbed and diffused into the surface of a pre-heated workpiece. Unlike traditional gas nitriding, this method incorporates electrical discharge plasma in a vacuum atmosphere, enabling highly efficient nitrogen diffusion into the material. This makes ion nitriding one of the most advanced and precise surface treatment technologies available today.
Key Advantages of Ion Nitriding

Enhanced Surface Properties : Improves wear resistance, corrosion resistance, and fatigue strength of treated components.
Precise Control of Compound Layer Composition : >Gas ratios can be finely adjusted to tailor the chemical composition of the compound layer for specific application needs.
Control of Porous Layer Formation : Vacuum processing allows for precise regulation of porous layer formation on the surface after treatment.
Suitable for Special Metals : Enables effective nitriding of materials such as aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, and zirconium.
Partial Area Treatment Capability : Allows selective nitriding of specific areas—ideal for components requiring post-weld joining or dimensional accuracy, helping eliminate the need for additional post-heat-treatment machining.
