Plasma Immersion Nitriding
Plasma Immersion Nitriding Technology
Plasma Immersion Nitriding is a surface modification technology developed by NDK, based on our plasma and plasma CVD technologies. By applying a proprietary exhaust gas treatment system and precisely controlling trace amounts of hydrogen sulfide, the process enables pollution-free operation. As a result, this process provides a surface with stable frictional performance, high durability, and excellent lubrication properties.

This equipment consists of (1)a reaction furnace, (2)a plasma power supply, (3)a control system, (4)a reactive gas supply unit, and (5)a vacuum exhaust system with an exhaust gas treatment tower. By adjusting the mixing ratio of the reactive gases, it is possible to perform nitriding, soft nitriding, and plasma immersion nitriding using this system.
Key Advantages of Plasma Immersion Nitriding
Formation of Wear-Resistant Iron Nitrides : Produces ε-Fe₂–₃N (epsilon iron nitride) layer with excellent resistance to oxidation and wear.
Easy Masking : The process allows for simplified masking, making selective treatment of surfaces more efficient.
Simplified Gas Exhaust Handling : The nitriding gas used can be easily exhausted without complex treatment systems.
Extremely Low Gas Consumption : Requires only a minimal amount of processing gas, enhancing cost-efficiency.
Clean Working Environment : The process generates little to no by-products, ensuring a clean and operator-friendly work environment.
High Process Repeatability : Offers excellent reproducibility, enabling consistent quality across multiple treatment cycles.
Safe and Stable Operation : >Maintains a quiet, stable process environment with minimal risk factors.
Compatible with Plasma Nitriding and Soft Nitriding : The system is adaptable to both plasma nitriding and soft nitriding applications, offering process flexibility.
